Bill Stearns, Coast VP, Passes Away It is with great personal sadness that I inform our membership of the passing of my friend and colleague, Bill Stearns this past Sunday morning. He died at home with family after an intense battle with esophageal cancer which had spread aggressively. Bill, our current CAPTO Coast Chapter VP, has been a key member of the Administration of Justice faculty at Allan Hancock College since August of 1999. He was instrumental in bringing POST Perishable Skills Training to Allan Hancock College, including the driving and force options simulators, as well as improvements in behind the wheel EVOC training. He had training hundreds and very close to all San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County police officers and deputy sheriffs in EVOC. Most recently, he has been serving on the design committee for the new Public Safety Training Center in Lompoc, which is to include a high-speed EVOC track. He has also served on numerous POST committees for EVOC and perishable skills training. Before joining our staff at Hancock, Bill retired as Chief after a long and distinguished career with the Seal Beach Police Department. He is survived by his wife, Michele, formerly the Community Services Supervisor at the Arroyo Grande Police Department. A memorial service will be held next week: For location and time, contact Craig Hendricks. |
